My New Nokia 5800 Music Express

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Had to get a new phone not because I wanted to but because I had to! when my faithful old Nokia 6220 which I got used to and which got used to me, got stolen while traveling. Needing a phone urgently, I got a cheap one in Malaysia -  Nokia 1208. This served me well until I returned home. I intend to sell this phone off. Contact me if interested.

Without the features that I got so used to having like camera, radio, GPS, Music, etc…I started looking for a new phone. Have to admit that I am a Nokia fan. I have tried other brands but find Nokia to be more user friendly. So my first stop was the Nokia site to see what they had. I normally like to search by selecting the features I like. Models that came up were N97, X6 and 5800. After doing further research on these models from forums and other sites, I decided on the 5800 as this was the cheapest one with all the features I wanted.

First impressions – a sleek, light weight phone with large screen. Besides the 3 buttons at the bottom for answering and ending calls and the menu button in the center, all inputs are by touch screen. So no ridiculously small keypad buttons which most phones have. If you have large fingers and find it difficult to select to work with the screen, it also comes with a pointer and spectrum. I just use the pointer. The best feature the 5800 had over my previous one (6220), is wifi. Never realised how cool this was until I had it.

With wifi on my mobile, I am now able to update my blog, twitter, facebook, myspace, picasa, flickr and other applications wherever I am.

MY favorite applications for Nokia 5800 are:

1) Snaptu -  a collection of applications in one place.
2) Nimbuzz – a VOIP application which has its own gateway but you can also use Skype with it.

You can get these applications and many more at Nokia Ovi Store.

I tried an application which allows you to blog by phone. While it worked for me – meaning my posts (including photos taken with the phone camera in real time) were sent to my blog, I won’t be using it much as it is too much of a hassle and things still did not look right when I checked my blog. Had to re-edit the whole post on my computer. Now I firmly believe that blogs are meant to be used on computers and not mobile phones.

Had one problem with the phone. It had a firmware version of 21 when I bought it, while the latest was 40+. All my efforts of updating it failed. Eventually I had to send it to Nokia care and it was done. When I got the phone back after the update, my maps and music were not working properly. Got this to work by deleting them on the phone card and re-installing them using the Nokia Ovi suite.

In conclusion, I find the Nokia 5800 a real value for money and am very happy with my purchase.

With this said, I would like to end with a video comparing the features of Nokia 5800 and IPhone.

Pfingo vs Skype

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Many of us are famaliar with Skype…the tool which allows to make free video and voice calls to other Skype users and for a few cents, make or receive voice calls on your computer or mobile device. Pfingo also offers similar services like free calls to other Pfingo users and IDD calls at very low rates.

Call quality seems to be better on Pfingo. International calling rates are also cheaper when compared to Skype. No video call though. While Pfingo can be loaded on mobile phones and other mobile devices like blackberry and ipods’…there is no software for the N810 tablet from Nokia.

Both Pfingo and Skype offer phone numbers in different countries which allow anyone to call you from a regulasr phone or mobile. Skype’s rates are cheaper for this service. Advantage of Pfingo over Skype here is in that it offers a Singapore number for only $2 / month. Skype does not offer Singapore numbers.

Both Pfingo and Skype offer call forwarding…a key service for me. You can forward calls to any landline or mobile and never miss a call. You can also forward the call to an overseas number when you travel. Pfingo gets the point here with its lower IDD rates.

I personally use a bit of both when I travel. I use Skype to make outgoing calls using my tablet and get all my incoming calls on my handphone, through Pfingo.

What do SEOs’ really do!

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Ask any SEO, or SEO company offering such services this question and they will immediately give you a whole list of whatever they do. Oh! we will scrutinize your site, study your competitors, optimize your site for the best keywords based on our experience, blah! blah! blah!…..and finally the cost for this would be a monthly sum of $$$ for xxx amount of months.

Do they really! do all these? Better still, is all this really necessary for better SERPS!

While its true that a well optimized site for your major keywords does help rank better, what is more important is having quality content and organic incoming links. Quality content comes from the site owner. Creating organic quality incoming links, is the job of the SEO. Organic links are links from related sites having some PR. Quality links are from blogs, forums, well written articles and the list goes on…

E-Commerce Services offers SEO Packages which consists of a variety of services, which generates quality incoming one-way links. Their services are clearly explained and their charges detailed. No monthly charge! No contract!

In the past, Search Engines used to calculate the number of times a word appears on your site and used that as the keyword of your site. This led to keyword stuffing from site designers and the algorithm was changed to key word links from external sites.  This led to many blackhat techniques . Cat and mouse game if you ask me.

The honest truth about Adsense

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

If you have a content rich website, you could be making more than your day job, just by placing Google Adsense ads on your site.

How to create a content rich website?

Everyone has a passion. It could be your hobby, or something as basic as what you like to do during your free time. I believe you could talk endlessly about your passion, because you have the knowledge and experience on it. What if I told you, you could be making money! and maybe even more than you can ever earn in your job, just by talking about it online.

This is how you start off with a content rich website. If you have any questions so far, Contact us. We will provide all technical assistance necessarry to get your content rich site up and running.

How to make money from my content rich website?

Answer is Adsense from Google. Adsense is an advertising program developed by Google. Search Google about it and you will get the necessarry info to get started. But beware! make one mistake and you could get banned!! not only from the program! but also from the search rankings.

Get the report “Discover how to turn your website’s content into Cash!!!” and avoid all the mistakes even pros’ make.

Cost for the report is less than $10 now. Trust me. A price worth to pay, rather than starting off without it, and getting banned halfway, and you have no clue why.

Why not call Google and ask them why your account was banned?

It would be easier to find a needle in a haystack, than to find an answer amongst Google’s Terms, Policies and FAQ. Send an email and you would be redirected to some policy or condition. Call them!! All numbers I called!! go to a machine.
