Pfingo vs Skype

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Many of us are famaliar with Skype…the tool which allows to make free video and voice calls to other Skype users and for a few cents, make or receive voice calls on your computer or mobile device. Pfingo also offers similar services like free calls to other Pfingo users and IDD calls at very low rates.

Call quality seems to be better on Pfingo. International calling rates are also cheaper when compared to Skype. No video call though. While Pfingo can be loaded on mobile phones and other mobile devices like blackberry and ipods’…there is no software for the N810 tablet from Nokia.

Both Pfingo and Skype offer phone numbers in different countries which allow anyone to call you from a regulasr phone or mobile. Skype’s rates are cheaper for this service. Advantage of Pfingo over Skype here is in that it offers a Singapore number for only $2 / month. Skype does not offer Singapore numbers.

Both Pfingo and Skype offer call forwarding…a key service for me. You can forward calls to any landline or mobile and never miss a call. You can also forward the call to an overseas number when you travel. Pfingo gets the point here with its lower IDD rates.

I personally use a bit of both when I travel. I use Skype to make outgoing calls using my tablet and get all my incoming calls on my handphone, through Pfingo.
